You might be wanting to know what events you need to plan to attend if you want to fit in with the OG Houstonians as a tourist or newbie. This is a list of seasonal major events that take place around Houston every year that are sure to be a hit every time!
Chevron Houston Marathon
If you're someone who loves running 26.2 miles then please don't ever invite me out - however, definitely register and go check out the largest one day sporting event in HTX.
FEBRUARY / MARCH
Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
Where else can you get fried Oreos, see a variety of performers from Garth Brooks and Megan Thee Stallion, ride a ferris wheel, and buy a heifer under the same roof?! Bring out your boots, it's rodeo szn!
FEBRUARY / MARCH
Galveston Mardi Gras
If you don't want to drive the 5+ hours to NOLA but still want to score an insane amount of beads while eating King Cake then the Galveston Mardi Gras parade is the next best thing.
Bayou City Art
Festival - Spring
Houstonians love their art and this festival is perfect for supporting local artists. It's one of the largest in the country so better start saving now because you're gonna wanna buy all the things.
Nothing in this world can prepare you for the absolute chaotic genius artistry that is the art car parade. It's everything you could possibly dream of & more, plus there's good food and drink vendors.
Houston 4th of July
If there's anything I've learned from living in Houston, it's that y'all are obsessed with fireworks and need an intervention. Go see this professional fireworks show so your neighbors & dogs can relax.
The Heights White
WLN Heights is for every Houstonian who loves acting bougie, telling people what frat they were in, & drinking Tito's in white Sperry's - and we love it! Party in The Heights & on 19th street.
AUGUST / SEPTEMBER
Houston arguably has the best food in the country. During restaurant week(s) you can score some amazing meal deals around town while most likely gaining a few pounds because dang our food is good.
A critically acclaimed festival, Houstonians look forward to this music event each year to hear some top jazz icons. Miller Outdoor Theatre is the perfect venue to enjoy some good tunes with friends!
Texas Renaissance Festival
Hear ye, Hear ye Lords & Ladies! The Texas Ren Fest is a must bc the turkey legs are to die for, the mead is strong, & the entertainment is seriously next level. It's also the size of a literal town.
Art Festival - Fall
Houstonians love their art and this festival perfect for supporting local artists. It's one of the largest in the country so better start saving now because you're gonna wanna buy all the things.
Who needs Macy's when you have H-E-B?! Enjoy downtown Houston's Thanksgiving Day Parade sponsored by H-E-B, complete with floats and marching bands.

Zoo Lights temporarily makes you forget that this is Houston & you're about to sweat through your sweater bc it's humid out! Sip hot chocolate and stroll the zoo while enjoying a "winter" wonderland.
Dickens On The
If you've binge watched all of Downton Abbey then dang do I have the festival for you! A themed Victorian England Era event that includes food/drinks, live entertainment, and parades in Galveston.
